12 Dec Road Map for December: Freshmen
As the year winds down and winter settles in, it’s a natural time for students to feel a dip in motivation—and also a valuable opportunity to pause and reflect. Shorter days and colder weather can make it harder to stay focused, so this is a good moment to think intentionally about the coming year. Whether you call them New Years resolutions or just goals, I encourage students to think not just about outcomes, but also the manageable steps and habits that will help get us there.
As you look ahead, remember that success in high school is built over time, starting with a strong foundation and a supportive community. In addition to your friends, there are lots of other people who can help you thrive. Teachers, coaches, counselors, advisors, and mentors can all play a role in encouraging you and guiding you through challenges. Don’t hesitate to reach out, ask questions, or share your goals—having others in your corner makes it easier to stay motivated (and accountable.)
Finally, be sure to use your upcoming break to rest and recharge. Taking care of yourself now can help you return in the new year with renewed energy and motivation. And finally, check out this article on embracing winter. Along with other mindful choices, a shift in perspective can also help keep the winter doldrums at bay.
