Road Map for April: Sophomores

As you move through the second half of 10th grade, it’s a great time to start thinking more intentionally about what you want your college experience to look like—without the pressure of building a formal college list just yet. The goal right now is exploration with a bit more direction.

If you’ve been able to visit a campus or two, you may have started to clarify your preferences. If you haven’t done any tours yet, aim to do at least one before the end of 10th grade. Start locally—there’s no need to buy plane tickets or book hotel rooms. Sign up for a tour on the admissions department’s website, and try to go on a day that the college is in session so you can see a typical day on campus and get a feel for what matters to you. Are you drawn to a large university or a smaller, close-knit community? Do you prefer the energy of a city or the quieter pace of a suburban or rural setting? You don’t have to answer definitively now, but you can start to notice your instincts and reflect on what you see. This early exploration will make the college search process much more focused (and less overwhelming) in the years ahead.
