07 Apr Road Map for April: Seniors
Congratulations to the Class of 2026! With admission decisions now in hand, this is an exciting moment. Whether you’re ready to commit or still deciding, take a moment to appreciate everything you’ve accomplished to get here.
If you’re weighing multiple options, focus on what matters most to you in your college experience. Visiting campuses (or revisiting, if applicable) can be incredibly helpful. Attend admitted student events, talk with current students, and try to picture yourself in each environment, both academically and socially.
Finances are a key part of the decision for many families. If your financial aid offer doesn’t meet your needs, consider submitting an appeal. Colleges understand that circumstances can change, and it’s appropriate to ask questions or request a review. I recommend moving quickly on this, because once the available funding is allocated the school will have limited flexibility to accommodate new requests.
If you’ve been waitlisted at a top choice, you can send a brief update and reaffirm your interest, but it’s important to stay grounded in the options you already have. Focus on choosing among your acceptances and committing by May 1.
Finally, if some results were disappointing, know that college admissions decisions are not a reflection of your worth or potential. Many students go on to thrive at schools that weren’t initially their top choice—and chances are you will, too. For students who feel their current options aren’t the right fit, however, there are still pathways forward. NACAC’s College Openings Update will be available soon, listing schools that are still taking new applications for this fall. A gap year may also be worth exploring. For guidance on final decisions, financial aid appeals, waitlist strategy, or other topics, I hope you’ll get in touch.
