09 Sep Road Map for September: Sophomores
Welcome back to school! With freshman year behind you, sophomore year is a chance to build on what you learned last year and start thinking more intentionally about this next phase of your high school experience.
As always, academics should be your top priority. You may be taking an increasingly challenging workload, so be sure you have a solid understanding of your teachers’ expectations, establish good study habits early, and think about anything you might want to do differently this year. If a class becomes challenging, ask for help before you fall behind.
If you joined new clubs, sports, or other activities as a freshman, this year can be a time to step up your extracurricular involvement. Think about what you enjoyed most last year and where you might want to deepen your engagement. And if you haven’t found something that really interests you yet, keep exploring. Remember that jobs, hobbies and family responsibilities are all meaningful ways to spend your time, and colleges value those experiences too.
Finally, set a few goals for the year, whether they’re academic, extracurricular, or personal, and think about the steps you’ll take to reach them. Sophomore year is a great time to explore your interests, develop good habits, and continue building a strong foundation for the rest of high school.
