Road Map for October: Sophomores

Now that you’re well into the fall semester, this is a good time to take stock of how things are going. Are you enjoying your classes and feeling appropriately challenged? Are there subjects or activities that especially interest you, and opportunities to explore them further? Sophomore year is a great time to build on your interests, try new things, and get more involved in activities you enjoy.

As you approach the end of the first grading period, think about how well you’re managing your time. If you’re finding it difficult to balance schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and other commitments, consider experimenting with a planning system, whether that’s a paper planner, an online calendar, or an app. Developing good organizational habits now will serve you well as your responsibilities increase.

Many sophomores are also taking the PSAT this month. I consider this test purely diagnostic, so there’s no need to prepare for it or worry about your score. However, it can provide a useful starting point for thinking about standardized testing next year. There’s plenty of time to develop a testing plan, and for now, your priority should be making the most of your sophomore year.
