13 Nov Road Map for November: Juniors
PSAT scores are out and if you haven’t already done so, it’s time to finalize your testing plan. Compare your PSAT with a practice ACT score (making sure to use a PSAT comparison chart, not an SAT chart), choose your test and map out your testing calendar and prep.
Despite upcoming ACT changes, I’m not changing my approach for Class of 2026 students who choose that exam:
- It’s not clear how much availability there will be for the digital test so I’m assuming ACT students will take the paper version this spring.
- Since the paper ACT is not changing until September, plan for the test without changes.
- If you are able to take the digital exam, I still recommend taking all four sections because we don’t know yet how colleges might change their policies with regard to the science section becoming optional.
For more guidance on this topic, I hope you’ll join me Sunday for This Is Only a Test, a free webinar designed for juniors and sophomores with opportunity for Q&A.
In addition to your standardized testing, and of course getting good grades, juniors should be exploring colleges through online research, virtual tours and information sessions, and in-person campus tours. If you’re trying to add a college visit to your holiday travel, it might not be possible to book an official admissions tour if the student tour guides are on break. However, you can walk or drive around a campus to see what it looks like and then follow up with a virtual info session, which will be very similar to the admissions presentation you would have gotten in person. Just keep in mind that campuses look and feel very different when students are on break vs. when classes are in session. Also remember that you’re not demonstrating your interest in a school if the admissions office doesn’t know you were there, so if you like the school you may need to show the love some other way.
