18 Jan Road Map for January: Juniors
Many people use the new year as an opportunity to take stock and set goals. As you’re doing this, start making your record of accomplishment a bit more formalized. You can start an account in the Common Application and the Coalition Application anytime and start filling in your information. The Common App for the Class of 2020 officially launches in August, but your profile, educational background info, and activities you enter now will roll over. (The Coalition doesn’t have a specific launch date for each application cycle.)
The Common App has also announced that the essay prompts will not change for the Class of 2020. This does not mean you should start drafting your personal statement, but there are things juniors should be doing now. Is your testing plan in place? Upcoming SAT test dates include March, May and June, while ACT options are February (late registration ends today!), April, June and July. Once you have dates set you can start test prep. I like my students to test at least once before the end of 11th grade; some are able to complete their testing by the time senior year starts, which helps ease the stress of application season.
We’re currently enrolling students in comprehensive counseling packages, in addition to an hourly option. If you’re ready to develop your college list, map out a tour schedule and create your college planning timeline for 2019, email me to schedule a consultation.
