Road Map for February: Freshmen

The next school year may seem far away but you’ll be choosing your 10th grade classes soon.  You probably know that colleges are looking for good grades but they are also interested in students taking a rigorous curriculum.  My rule of thumb is to take courses that are challenging but not overwhelming.  In addition to your school counselor, talk to your teachers in each subject about your options and what they recommend for you, and keep in mind that classes you might want to take later in high school may have prerequisites you need to take now.

If you feel you could be doing better in your current classes, improving your study skills can help.  My colleague Paul Rivas has just published This Book Will Not Be on the Test, and in the next few weeks he’s speaking at two events in the DC area. Click here for details.
