Road Map for October: Sophomores

I hope your sophomore year is going well and that you’re enjoying the fall season. As we approach the end of the first grading period, reflect on what’s been going well. Are there classes or activities you especially enjoy—and ways to explore them further? This is a great year to build on your interests, try something new, and develop routines that support your success.

If you’re finding it challenging to balance homework and activities, experiment to find a planning system that works for you, whether that’s a paper planner, a Google Calendar, or an app. Mapping out your time helps you stay on top of assignments and will make it easier to manage increasing responsibilities as high school progresses.

Many sophomores also took or are taking the PSAT this month. Remember, this test is purely diagnostic—it’s simply meant to give you a preview of future SAT testing. Still, it’s a good time to start learning about testing options and timelines so you can make an informed plan for testing next year. I’m starting to work with Class of 2028 students to help them understand what they can do now to prepare for the admissions process–and what should wait until later. If you’re interested in learning about individual advising, I hope you’ll get in touch.
