Road Map for November: Sophomores

Many of you have recently received your first report card of the year—I hope your year is off to a strong start! This is a great moment to pause and reflect. Remember that academics remain the most important factor in college admission, and as your classes become more advanced, you may find you need to adjust your study habits. If a grade wasn’t what you hoped for, connect with your teachers early—extra help after school, quick check-ins during free periods, and open communication can make a real difference. Study groups, peer tutoring, and online resources can also give you a boost.

If you took the PSAT this fall, treat these scores as a helpful snapshot; it’s simply an early indicator of your testing strengths and areas for growth. My testing guidance for sophomores kicks in at the end of the school year, but if you’re curious about what’s ahead you can preview my recommendations here.

Now is also a great time to start exploring colleges to see what kind of place might be a good fit for you. Consider doing a couple of virtual tours or info sessions in the coming weeks to choose a school to visit in person during the spring semester.  If you’re interested in personalized recommendations, please get in touch about individual advising options.
