11 Jan Road Map for January: Freshmen
Even though we’re only halfway through the school year, many of you will be asked to look ahead and choose your 10th grade courses in the next few weeks. What subjects are you finding interesting and doing well in this year? Look for opportunities to explore your current academic interests and cultivate new ones, and to challenge yourself. Colleges like to see academic rigor, and my rule of thumb is to take the most challenging courses you can do well in without becoming overwhelmed. Additionally, pay attention to the conditions that contribute to your success in class, whether it’s hands-on projects, in-depth writing assignments, studying with peers, or attending review sessions with teachers, and try to take advantage of those opportunities whenever possible.
