Road Map for November: Sophomores

If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still space available for College Admissions: A Road Map for 9th and 10th Graders next week.  This event on Thursday at 6:30pm at the Hill Center will give you tips for starting your college search, insight on what colleges are looking for and how you can develop those qualifications, a preview of standardized tests and campus visits, and a brief overview of financial aid.  Click here to RSVP.

College may seem a long way off, but tracking your accomplishments now can keep you motivated.  The Common Application and Coalition Application allow you to create your account and begin entering your courses, grades and activities.  The Coalition’s locker feature also allows you to upload samples of your work or any other files you may want to keep a record of.

Another excellent resource is Raise.Me, which lets students enter accomplishments like taking the PSAT, enrolling in honors classes or having a leadership position in a club.   For each of these steps, you can earn “microscholarships” of specific amounts at colleges that participate.  It’s a great way to see the long-term impact of the work you’re doing now to prepare yourself for college.
