As the new year begins, take a moment to reflect on how your school year is going. Are you enjoying your classes and activities? If you’ve found clubs or projects you’re passionate about, consider diving deeper into them. If not, now is a great time to explore new opportunities that might spark your interest.
In my part of the world we’re in the dead of winter, but this is the perfect time to start thinking about summer. Whether you’re considering academic programs, athletic camps, a job, or volunteering, many schedules and applications are already available. If you’re planning to work, check the requirements for paperwork or certifications, and if volunteering interests you, the upcoming MLK Day of Service is an excellent way to get involved with causes in your community.
Of course, you should continue to prioritize academics—strong grades remain the foundation of your college application. If you’re choosing junior year courses soon, aim for rigor without overloading yourself. Use this season to reflect, plan, and take small steps toward your goals. A little preparation now will set you up for success in the months ahead!
