Road Map for August: Class of 2024

Your decisions have been made, enrollments have been completed, and as you look ahead to your next adventure, your to-dos now include tying up loose ends, such as confirming that all final documents have been received by the college you’ll be attending. In addition to checking your portal, keep an eye on your spam folder. And if there are any outstanding thank-you messages you want to send to the folks who supported you in getting this far, finish those up too.

Once your fall class schedule is final, set yourself up for success during the semester by using these weekly and semester time management templates to think through how you’ll spend your time. Be sure to include the things that will keep you healthy, like sleep and exercise, as well as those that will set you up for academic success, like individual and group study time or attending office hours.  And for students who are taking a gap year before college, there’s  planning to do as well. This guide can help you make the most of your “year on.”  (For individual gap year guidance, please contact me.)

Many of my students have benefited from mental health support during high school, and this guidance for finding a therapist at college can ensure you continue to receive the support you need for success in a new setting. (The sections on insurance coverage and virtual appointments may be particularly helpful.)

Finally, here’s my advice for families making the transition (scroll down for it) in addition to a couple more to-do lists to prepare for students leaving home.

I‘ve loved working with you, Class of ’24! I hope you’ll keep in touch with updates about your future plans and successes!
