18 Apr Road Map for April: Freshmen
April is Internship Awareness Month, as well as National Volunteer Month. That makes this a great time to think about how you want to grow over the course of your high school experience, and what kinds of activities will support that growth.
Many of my students have internships during their summers or the school year, and some high schools even have an internship requirement for graduation. One important step is to put together a resume so you’ll be ready to apply to any opportunities that come your way. Start with a template like this one, one of these or these, personalize it to showcase your unique qualifications, and keep it updated as you gain new experiences.
Volunteering is another fantastic way to explore your interests, give back, build skills and establish a network. Whether you find an opportunity through a platform like Points of Light or connect directly with a local nonprofit, serving your community is personally rewarding—as well as highly valued by colleges.
