Road Map for January: Freshmen

We’re barely into the new year, but believe it or not it’s time to start thinking about the summer.  If you’re planning to get a job or internship this year, start networking now.  How do you do that?  Think about people you know who do things you’d like to do, or just learn more about, and ask them to meet with you for an informational interview.  You might be surprised at how willing people are to help you learn about their work.  DCPS students can take advantage of the teacher professional development days added onto MLK weekend—unless there’s a surprise compromise on reopening the government, you may know some professionals with extra time on their hands.

The MLK Day of Service is another way to get familiar with an organization that works in your community and see if it might be a good fit for a longer-term experience.  Check out these DC groups that are always looking for volunteers, or click here or here to find events or organizations in your area where you can help.
